BEST ANSWER: Sorry, my use was entirely different.
can this be used for fiberglass? ( securing a livewell lid )
Dominik on Jun 13, 2018
BEST ANSWER: hi Dominik, These are generally for Polymer materials. The usual procedure for thick or cored composite or fiberglass is to epoxy a knurled insert into a snug-fit hole.
Can you apply (roughly) the same amount of torque you would use on a screw-in insert? I'm concerned that it might spin in its hole...
A shopper on Apr 11, 2018
BEST ANSWER: This is a great question. Typically with inserts like this you will not be able to apply the same amount of pressure as you would if you were fully thru-bolting, but these inserts will support a sufficient amount of load before giving way as long the the pre-drilled hole is appropriately sized (not too large). Thank you!
What does this item do?
A shopper on Jan 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello, we use these inserts in Starboard and acrylic items that are stud mounted. You would drill the material deep enough to fit the insert, without going all the way through, then thread in a stud that goes through the surface you are mounting the material to so it can be through bolted without seeing any fasteners on the face. I hope this helps and please let us know if you have any other questions or if there is anything else we can do for you.
