Works Like Wood, Lasts a Lifetime!

King Starboard is the original and leading marine grade boat plastic polymer sheet building material. Since its introduction, it has been the choice boat building material for marine parts previously made from teak wood. Nothing on the water maintains it's original color and structural integrity longer.

King Starboard simply cannot rot or delaminate, and it is virtually maintenance free. It's unique polymer formula is environmentally stabilized to deliver a previously unattainable level of consistency and resistance to the elements. It is easy to clean and never needs refinishing. King Starboard plastic lumber is available in a variety of colors and sheet thicknesses and can be easily cut and machined using standard wood working tools.

King Starboard is used exclusively by Teak Isle Mfg., the leading OEM supplier for component plastic marine products. Experienced boat builders and boaters know the King Starboard brand and trust it above all others.

For the marine industry: Access Doors, Center Console Doors, Transom Doors, Hatches, Tackle Storage Units, Drawer Units, Step Pads, Swim Platforms, Rod Holders, Tray Tables, Step Boxes, Anchor Chocks, Bow Pulpits, Fender Mounts, Deck Boxes, Step Boards (Gunwales), Sink Covers, Shower Grates, Dive Platforms, Cutting boards, Cabin Molding, Step Treads (Ladders), Electronics Mounting, Mounting Platforms, Fender Mounts, Upholstery Backs

Other Applications: Exterior Cabinetry, Summer Kitchens, Playground Equipment, Swings, Benches, Ottomans, Adirondacks, Shelving, Storage, Bars & Cabanas, Bathroom Partitions, Medical Carts, Shower Seats, Motor Mounts and Spacers, Lockers, Locker Room Benches, Engraved Signs, Pool Pump Bases.

King Starboard has three limitations to consider-
  1. It cannot be glued
  2. It cannot be painted
  3. It has less structural rigidity than wood
Gluing
While there is some debate regarding gluing Starboard, we have never found an adhesive that we've tested and trust to structurally adhere Starboard. We would advise caution and skepticism if anyone tells you differently and we always recommend using mechanical fasteners with Starboard.

Painting
Paint (including polyurethanes) simply will not adhere to Starboard and upon drying will easily peel away.

Structural Rigidity
While Starboard is incredibly durable (and nearly impossible to actually break), it does not have the same structural rigidity as wood. For example - If you lean a piece of Starboard against the wall in your hot garage, you will return the next day and it very likely would have started to flex a bit.

The degree of this "flex" will vary by material thickness, but depending on your application, parts fabricated from King Starboard may require some metal stiffeners. If you have questions about your intended use, we'd encourage you to give us a call at 866-633-7961 to discuss if stiffeners would be required.

Arctic white matched ok
I ordered a color sample kit to confirm actual color before ordering. Arctic white matched well with my Chaparral brand boat. 1st pc was warped so I had to order another. Well packed and arrived intact. Machines and drills easily. Seems a little heavier than original but thats not an issue

Excellent product, excellent service, delivered quickly.
On my 1977 Grand Banks 42, I got tired of trying to keep the base trim around the interior side of the FB painted, so i asked Boat Outfitters if it seem feasible to cut 1" thick Starboard into strips to permanently provide a no-maintenance trim piece in this location. The reply was yes, and I cut the pieces on a table saw 1" high, 5/8" base and 3/8" top. Worked perfectly. And I was able to order custom sized pieces so had almost no waste.

What is the weight of a board that is appr. 72" x 110"?
Dawn J on May 17, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Dawn to add to the previous answer, our largest sheet size is 54"W x 96"L, so we cannot cut a piece to 110"L. However, the square foot price of the 1/2" starboard is about 2.5 lbs/sq.ft., so this should help you determine the exact weight of any size piece you need. Thanks Dawn!
What to use on joints for a galley counter top and back splash?
Roger P on Oct 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hi Roger, Starboard can be sealed (non-structural) using the Elastomeric Sealant that we have on the website. You could use this at your seams/joints. However, starboard can also be welded. I have included links for both options below. Thank you!

A 12’ aluminum boat? 1/2 inch thick. Approximately 36” wide x 4” long. Back piece approximately 14” long and 12 inches wide?
Brendan V on Jul 4, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello Brendan, typically we do not recommend Starboard as a structural replacement because it will flex. We do however offer Coosa board with is a direct replacement for plywood but it will not absorb water and it 30% lighter than plywood. I will include a link to that material for you to review below.

Can you bend the 1/4 inch sheet?
Gerard W on Jan 29, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Great question. Let me preface this by stating that we do not bend starboard. With that said, starboard can be heated and bent, but it will not hold the bent form. The material naturally wants to retract to its original flat form. If you are looking to bend the material, you will need to mechanically fasten it in place to hold the bend. Thank you Gerard!
any wider than 54 available?
A shopper on Dec 13, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Great question. The largest standard sheet size we carry is 54" x 96". If a larger sheet is required, we can reach out to the supplier. However, if available, the larger size would most likely have to be purchased in larger bulk quantities. I hope this helps.
I’m putting pads(seats) on aluminum toolbox s for my pontoon seats. My question is how thick would your product have to be for seat backing on a solid surface?
Mitch m on Dec 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hello Mitch, if the material is being mounted to a solid surface you could really go with any thickness you would like but if it were me I would go with 1/2". That should give you enough room to countersink the mounting holes, but not stick up far enough that it would too uncomfortable for the back of your legs.
I need a piece 30" _ 76" _1/4". What would cost be. What kind of routed edge?
Mark balita on Aug 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Hi Mark, currently the price for a 76" x 30" panel of 1/4" Starboard is $110.83 when raw cut. If you would like the edges routed, it is an additional $10 for all four edges of one side of the panel, or $15 for all edges of both sides of the panel. With 1/4" thick starboard, we do not recommend routes any larger than 1/8" for both sides or 3/16" for one side.

Please also note that a piece of starboard of this size will incur over sized package fees for shipping through UPS. Also a panel this size has a larger risk of damage simply due to its size. There are two ways to get around this: 1. Order a panel size larger than what you need so that if it is damaged the damage can be removed by cutting it down to size, or 2. Contact us before placing the order and we can look into freight shipping. Freight tends to be a little more expensive, but it is safer in regards to damage. Thanks Mark!
