Works Like Wood, Lasts a Lifetime!

King Starboard is the original and leading marine grade boat plastic polymer sheet building material. Since its introduction, it has been the choice boat building material for marine parts previously made from teak wood. Nothing on the water maintains it's original color and structural integrity longer.

King Starboard simply cannot rot or delaminate, and it is virtually maintenance free. It's unique polymer formula is environmentally stabilized to deliver a previously unattainable level of consistency and resistance to the elements. It is easy to clean and never needs refinishing. King Starboard plastic lumber is available in a variety of colors and sheet thicknesses and can be easily cut and machined using standard wood working tools.

King Starboard is used exclusively by Teak Isle Mfg., the leading OEM supplier for component plastic marine products. Experienced boat builders and boaters know the King Starboard brand and trust it above all others.

King Starboard has three limitations to consider-
  1. It cannot be glued
  2. It cannot be painted
  3. It has less structural rigidity than wood
Gluing
While there is some debate regarding gluing Starboard, we have never found an adhesive that we've tested and trust to structurally adhere Starboard. We would advise caution and skepticism if anyone tells you differently and we always recommend using mechanical fasteners with Starboard.

Painting
Paint (including polyurethanes) simply will not adhere to Starboard and upon drying will easily peel away.

Structural Rigidity
While Starboard is incredibly durable (and nearly impossible to actually break), it does not have the same structural rigidity as wood. For example - If you lean a piece of Starboard against the wall in your hot garage, you will return the next day and it very likely would have started to flex a bit.

The degree of this "flex" will vary by material thickness, but depending on your application, parts fabricated from King Starboard may require some metal stiffeners. If you have questions about your intended use, we'd encourage you to give us a call at 866-633-7961 to discuss if stiffeners would be required.
