Pontoon Cooler Storage Solutions
Andrew 0:08
Pontoon storage is a pain in the butt you know a lot of times the bulk of the storage is underneath your butt right yes hey the three people stand up where you lift up this bench seat to access it um so Pat I know you're working on a couple different drawer units that change that access point right so now instead of you're lifting up the lid you're reaching under or between your legs right and pulling out a drawer unit talk to me about some of those.
Pat 0:33
Well, you know uh actually I was out on a pontoon boat on my brother-in-law's pontoon boat and he had one of these backpack coolers and we were going down to the lake and I got down there I said well where do you put the where do I put the cooler he says I'll just throw it in the back corner back there and I was like well there's got to be better places on this boat to do that and so we you know we started kind of brainstorming on different ways of storing the coolers and and we went to uh you know that same area that we do the drawers and tables and stuff like that and it said you know number one we could do a big uh uh drawer unit which pulls out that gives you the area to be able to put a soft side backpack.
Andrew 1:11
You're saying in the lounge backrest area.
Pat 1:13
You can do it in the lounge backrest area you could do that in a drawer type setup or a tilt out but then we've developed some other uh lower profile drawers uh that'll actually go up underneath the seating which is a great here again a use of space uh and an easy access point to get to a cooler versus you know.
Andrew 1:35
So it's got to be what like what is it what is the vertical that you're working with on and if you're mounting on that plane like where there's under the seat yeah is that.
Pat 1:45
So that's uh about uh the outside dimension of the Frameworks about 13 and a half inches tall right now yeah uh we're working on some shorter units with some uh shorter coolers right now they're going to bring it down to about uh 11 inches and overall height of the frame of the drawer.
Andrew 2:02
So there's is there a specific soft-sided cooler that you've done most of these on or is it a mixture of different brands?
Pat 2:07
Um well on the backpack uh style there's a variety of Brands but the one we're using most uh on the pullout drawers is an AO cooler which is a great cooler line uh they have great low profile coolers which is kind of unique as far as you know the height and how you access the top of it being a zipper top and a low profile height is you know it's important with what we're doing.
Andrew 2:32
So you need about I mean 13 inches you're you need a cooler that's about how tall?
Pat 2:37
Yeah it's about nine and a half inches tall it gets uh 38 can cooler you know.
Matt 2:42
38 cans that's pretty dang good
Pat 2:46
But it's deep now I mean we're talking about something that's uh uh 24 inches deep the cooler itself but it's got a you know a great uh
Andrew 2:55
You need to have some beefy drawer slides huh?
Pat 2:57
We do they're all stainless drawer slides they're 24 inch drawer slides which uh
Andrew 3:00
You feel good about the weight I'm picturing that many cans
Pat 3:04
Oh 100% yeah that's been 100 pound rated or so yeah that's uh not a problem with that at all.
Andrew 3:10
Yeah I guess there is a lot of depth when you think about it going that way yeah
Matt 3:15
Yeah it's a nice wide bench seat so it makes sense yeah.
Andrew 3:17
And so I mean yeah the big thing is just changing where you have to go to get something you don't have to ask three people all four people all stand up just to get a drink.
Matt 3:27
Or you don't have to walk to some back corner of the boat where it seems like things are stashed out of the way.
Pat 3:32
Yeah or just take up floor space where you're trying to walk around it and stuff like that.
Matt 3:37
Oh I was I was on my sister-in-law's boat and you know between the kids and all the inflatable toys everyone brings a bag I mean it's it was like landmines everywhere.
Andrew 3:48
You know and I guess you know it's sized like you're saying for a specific backpack but you know at the end of the day you know if you didn't want to use that day or or whatever it's just an Open Drawer.
Pat 4:00
It doesn't need to be necessarily a cooler either it can be you know there's a brand of bags called a 31 bag you know it's a very popular bag where people are carrying their you know their towels and sunscreen and stuff like that you know so that kind of stuff can it could still be you know because it's here like you say it's just a big drawer unit uh can be you know fitted with pretty much anything you have.
Matt 4:23
Utilize the space that you got.
Pat 4:25
It's all about space on a boat.
