Build Your Own Head Door Product Review

Build your own head door. This is a part that we’ve got on the website, you know, definitely want to talk about through a product review standpoint. Some of the pros and cons behind that so I think first kind of explaining what a head door is, right?
Matt 00:20
Yeah, so a head door is typically and aluminum frame; powder-coated aluminum framed door with a mica covered plywood door panel. And they’re usually used on internal bulkheads. It’s a head door, right, so you picture it’s going to be a door that you use to the head, maybe the shower on a boat. We’ve even seen them on ya know campers, trailers, and stuff like that as well. The pros to it are you can typically match it up to whatever, get pretty close to the interior design on the inside of the boat. Cons to it? You’re not going to use it as an exterior application cause it ultimately is a plywood door.

It’ll swell, or whatever when it gets wet over time. A little bit of water is okay on the mica? You wipe it down, just the continued exposure is the big issue.

Yeah, and all the doors that we make in this format are ya know covered on both sides and edge banded for protection so that helps them from a longevity stand point to function as a head door.

Yeah, you know as we have this part added to the website right now in its current state. You know we build a ton of these things for all the different boat builders out there and of course there’s probably 16 different colors of laminate or mica, probably even more, right? And really being able to systemize this for self-service there was some trade-offs that we had to make, right. Ya know, you’ll see in some cases these head doors on the interior in the bathroom it might be white, and you want the inside of the door to be white where the outside it might be like a teak look, right or a maple look. That’s not really an option for us in this current state, right? So I would say that’s the negative. So walk us through kind of how we have that set up for people to be able to self service.

We kind of narrowed it down to across the board, you know, check as many boxes as we could. We have 4 different colors of laminate, they’re going to be on both sides so you’re not going to get that one side is white and one side is a wood grain or a different color. We got 2 different wood grains and then 2 different versions of a white and an off-white kind of matte style laminate that’s going to go on it.

Yeah, so I mean again, from a self-service standpoint we were really trying to catch the 80% with 20% of what we do, right. And that works really well from a standpoint self-service, but in the case somebody does want 2 different, I just want people to know that they can give us a call and we can go through and do something a little bit more custom. So, again really good part for its application, you’re getting the same part that we build for the boat builders that we are sending out to the boat builders on a daily basis and ya know I’d say the disadvantages of course are you gotta use it for an interior application, it’s not for exterior. And then of course looking at some of the limitations that we did on the self-service side knowing that you can’t just go and click and get the exact same door,
