Different Styles of Boat Seats
There are several different styles of boat seats available here at Boat Outfitters. Consider the following styles and descriptions when deciding which boat furniture is best for you.
Pontoon Boat Seats
We have many high-quality seats that are ideal if you have a pontoon boat. Made from mildew and UV-resistant marine grade vinyl, these have very comfortable plush cushions with high compression foam padding. The cushions have hinges that allow them to open up and provide generous storage space underneath. Pontoon boat seats also offer opportunities to add a wide variety of pontoon boat-specific storage and accessories.
Bucket Seats
Bucket seats, also known as bolster seats, are as attractive as they are practical. They feature the same level of premium-grade, UV, and mildew resistant vinyl with high compression foam padding in the cushion. A unique benefit of these seats is the lower section flips up so it can be used to lean against, perfect for driving while standing. Thanks to their design they work well as captain’s or standard passenger’s seats.
Back to Back Seats
As the name suggests back to back seats are basically two chairs that are connected via the back and built on the same base unit. With most, they slide out and can be laid flat and also have storage in the hollow compartment underneath.
Casting Seat
Casting seats are designed, as you may imagine, for fishing boats and offer greater stability when fishing while standing, particularly if you are on rough and choppy waters.
High Back Boat Seats
High back boat chairs provide optimum backrest featuring a high impact plastic and durable seat frame with luxury compression foam padded cushion. The backrest can be folded forward, making them a good option on smaller boats where space is limited like jon boats.
Boat Seat Fabrics and Materials
Another important consideration aside from the type of available boat seats is the type of fabrics and materials used to manufacture them.
At Boat Outfitters, we only sell boat seats made with the highest quality materials and fabrics. When you purchase our products, you can expect:
High-quality and durable plastic
Compression foam padding
Marine-grade vinyl
Robust aluminum

As boats are exposed to all kinds of weather and conditions, they need to be suitably built to handle them. At Boat Outfitters, we know the importance, therefore, of designing and building boat seats with the highest quality materials and fabrics. These offer properties like UV and mildew resistance, comfortable, hygienic, practical, and space-efficient. Some of the most common materials we used in building our boat seats include vinyl upholstery, metal hardware, aluminum, and high-density plastics.
All powered vessels have a boat capacity plate located close to the helm, this should be every boaters first reference when deciding how many people can fit on their boat. This means you need to take into consideration the size of people, the amount of gear on board, and the number of safe seating options when deciding how many passengers you can carry on your boat. Most boats have the ability to carry more passengers than the number of seats onboard, making aftermarket boat seats a great upgrade.
Although it will usually depend on the type of materials and fabrics used in the boat seats you have, as a general rule of thumb you can clean them using a simple mixture of dishwashing detergent with warm water. Take a sponge and wipe down the seats, paying special attention to the point where the backrest meets the cushion part and underneath to remove all debris, grime, and mud that may have built up. When you have finished, make sure you rinse the boat seats thoroughly using clean water and then dry them properly before putting them into storage.
When cracks appear in the vinyl upholstery of your boat seats, you can make quick, but temporary repairs on the water with duct tape. However, when you are back onshore, you will need to use a special vinyl patch kit to stop moisture building up in the foam inside the boat seats that could lead to deterioration.
Repairing boat seats can be an expensive project, making it important to check with a couple of marine upholstery professionals to ensure the value and quality of their work. Dependent on the severity of the repairs it is often less expensive to completely replace boat seats than repair them.
As you will notice, most boat seats, even entry-level models, constitute a considerable investment. Therefore, it is in your own best interest and that of your bank account to look after them well. When it comes to protecting against harmful exposure UV rays can do, many boat seats come upholstered in a suitable fabric. In addition to the fabric, you can also use seat covers that will provide an extra layer of protection. When your boat and boat seats are not in use it is also a good idea to have a storage cover on the seats that straps down that not only keep out the sun, but also the rain, pests, and any dirt.
