Glass Door Hinges
The glass door hinge is designed for creating what is known as frameless glass doors. These kinds of hinges are usually very easy to install, do not require much in the way of on-site assembly, and do not require holes cut into the ceiling or flooring. They are perfect for transforming external and internal doors into aesthetically appealing and contemporary doors with no need for comprehensive retrofitting.
Different Types of Glass Door Hinges
Just as there are different types of more traditional hinges, there are also a variety of different types of glass door hinges. Each offers its benefits and unique applications. To give you an idea of the types available, we have profiled each of the most common below:
Inset Hinges
Inset hinges come in 2 options. The first is with a hidden mount, where the mount for the hinge is affixed to the inside edge of the cabinet or door frame and the edge of the door. The other way is with a surface mount where the hinge is placed directly onto the outside of the frame and door. Inset hinges are used with doors that are smaller than their frame and fit inside it. Inset glass hinges are largely concealed from the door exterior. This is why they are often used as glass cabinet door hinges. You don’t have huge knuckle hinges obstructing your view into the door, whether it’s for a room or a cabinet, so you can see inside without having to open the door first.
Overlay Hinges
Overlay hinges are another type of hinges that are often used in cabinets. These hinges are used with doors that are slightly larger than their frame and lay over them when closed. Sometimes these are semi-concealed or completely hidden hinges and make the doors of cabinets look great.

Half Overlay Hinges
Overlay hinges are another type of hinges that are often used in cabinets. These hinges are used with doors that are slightly larger than their frame and lay over them when closed. Sometimes these are semi-concealed or completely hidden hinges and make the doors of cabinets look great.
Glass to Glass Hinges
Some glass hinges are designed to attach a glass door to wood, fiberglass, or metal frame. Others are designed to serve as a hinge between two pieces of glass. These are called glass-to-glass hinges and are frequently used on shower doors.
Stainless Steel Glass Door Hinges
A glass door hinge that is used on boats needs to be resistant to corrosion, so stainless steel must be the best material. Many glass door hinges designed for home use are made from other materials. Be sure you purchase stainless or another corrosion-resistant material for marine use.
Different Uses & Applications for Glass Door Hinges
Why should you consider a glass door hinge? To show you just some of the options open to you when you invest in glass hinges, we have highlighted some of the most common uses and applications:
Glass Door Hinges
If you have any frameless glass doors or large glass doors you’ll want to use sleek glass hinges rather than hinges meant for wooden doors. These hinges are more attractive and lower profile, providing better visibility. A glass door hinge isn't just used for boat doors. If you have glass doors in and around your home, you can use glass hinges installed onto them.
Glass Cabinet Door Hinges
If you have cabinets with glass doors on your boat, particularly if they are in the kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere else where you would want to see the cabinet’s contents through the door, glass hinges are a great option.
The great thing about glass cabinet hinges is that their use is not just reserved for cabinet doors on boats. Any cabinets in and around the house with glass doors can be fitted with glass cabinet hinges.
Glass Shower Door Hinges
Do you have a shower on board your boat? Even if you don’t have a shower enclosure you are trying to install the door on, then a glass door hinge is a great choice. They are designed to hold firmly into the glass, without breaking it and can also be concealed so they are not in the way when you are getting in, out, and using the shower.
