NidaCore Frequently Asked Questions

How is it different from Nidaplast?

NidaCore and Nidaplast are the same material and the name may be used interchangeably by some.

How do I install NidaCore?

NidaCore can be installed in many ways depending on what you want to use it for and the material thickness. Common ways to install Nidacore are
  • Bonding directly to the rigid skin surface using an adhesive. This is popular when Nidacore is being used to reinforce or insulate walls and floors.
  • Through bolting to the desired surface. To do this, you will need to over-drill a bit larger than the desired bolt, backfill the hole with an epoxy filler, then redrill and insert the bolt once the epoxy dries.
  • Laminating directly to the desired surface using a thermo-hardening resin. This is ideal for when all sides won’t be exposed and the nidacore is cut precisely to fit in like a puzzle piece. Simply lay your resin or fiberglass over the joints. Multiple layers may be required.

How do I cut NidaCore?

You can cut NidaCore with standard tools such as saws, knives, and hot wire. For using a saw, the recommended tooth spacing is 10 teeth per inch. Please note that NidaCore is a thermoplastic that will melt at 320 degrees Fahrenheit. Too many blades could melt the Nidacore. Always keep in mind manufacturer instructions and wear proper protection.

Will it soften in sunlight?

NidaCore is not recommended to be in temperatures above 221 degrees Fahrenheit without proper reinforcement and laminating as it is a thermoplastic that will lose its integrity. But overall, it won't soften.

How do I cut NidaCore? Can you cut the board to my specific size and shape?

You can cut NidaCore using any standard woodworking tools. Please make sure to take the same precautions (eye protection, gloves, dust mask, etc.) as you would when cutting plywood.

We are happy to cut your NidaCore to any required size and shape. Please note that an engineering charge and/or a cut charge may apply depending on the shape of your pattern.

How do I use NidaCore for decking?

You simply install the NidaCore as you would plywood using the suggestions above. Many people have installed the NidaCore and adhered carpet directly over using their favorite adhesive.

Do I have to fiber-glass in the NidaCore?

NidaCore already has a fiberglass reinforced skin on both sides, so you are not required to fiberglass the board to prevent absorption of water/liquid. However, many people use fiberglass to seal or reinforce the NidaCore for their projects.

Is NidaCore UV Stabilized?

The skins on the NidaCore are UV stabilized to protect the core.

What types of resin are compatible with NidaCore?

All typical marine resins work with NidaCore, including epoxy, vinyl ester, and polyester resins.

How does NidaCore Ship?

It depends on the size piece you are ordering. If you order either a full sheet (96" x 48") or a half sheet (48" x 47.5"), it will have to ship freight. We are happy to get freight shipping quotes if you will send us your zip code and destination type (either commercial or residential). Please note that with freight shipping commercial addresses are significantly less expensive to ship to.

If you are ordering a third of a sheet (48" x 31.5"), then your piece can ship UPS. UPS shipping costs will vary based on location but will always be considerably less expensive than freight shipping.

Note: For the price-conscious customer who needs a full sheet, please consider having your sheet cut into thirds. (3 pieces - 48" x 31.5"). This will allow your order to ship UPS and save you shipping costs.

When will my order ship?

Everything listed on the website is in stock and available to ship. Our standard lead time is 2-3 days for NidaCore.
