- Use a smooth, rigid, flat backing like 5/8" or 3/4" MDF.
- Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of flaking or powdery paint.
General Guidelines
- Acrylic is flexible and may show slight distortions; it’s not suitable for precise image reflection.
- Choose an appropriate thickness before cutting.
Cutting & Forming
- Acrylic mirror cannot be thermoformed but can be cold-formed.
- Suitable cutting methods include routing, sawing, or laser cutting. It cannot be die-cut.
Adhesives & Gluing
- Test adhesives on expendable pieces 72 hours before application; some adhesives may damage the mirrored backing.
- Avoid solvent gluing at edges to prevent cracking (crazing).
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry area, flat and overwrapped with plastic to minimize moisture absorption.
- Variable temperatures and humidity can cause warping.
Usage Restrictions
- Not recommended for glazing, shower doors, outdoor use, or high-humidity environments.
- For outdoor use, seal edges with silicone to protect the mirror backing from moisture and salt spray.
Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean with mild soap and a damp, soft cloth. Avoid window cleaners or abrasive chemicals.
- Remove grease or tar using hexane or kerosene.
- Maintain surface gloss with plastic polish and a flannel cloth.
- Remove fine scratches with plastic scratch remover; deeper scratches may require wet sanding with 400-grit sandpaper.
Protective Masking
- Keep protective masking on until fabrication is complete. If additional masking is required, apply over the supplied film.
Safety Precautions
- Acrylic is a combustible thermoplastic; keep it away from flames and high heat sources.
Additional Notes
- Excess material ("overage") is included; inspect edges before cutting.
- Warping due to humidity is a characteristic of acrylic and should be considered in design.
